BEIJING, Oct. 21, according to the US Chinese website, US Congress Senate Democratic Party leader Chuck Schumer called on the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to examine a report that found dozens of Baby food is contaminated with lead and other metals. Schumer pointed out that more action must be taken to regulate the baby food industry.
According to a study by the non-profit organization Healthy Babies Bright Futures, 95% of the 168 baby foods tested had heavy metals.
The study found that 95% of the foods tested contained elements such as lead, arsenic, mercury or cadmium. In addition, one-fourth of the baby foods tested contained all four of the above metals.
Schumer said the FDA must take more action to regulate the baby food industry. Schumer said that consumers "take it for granted that these foods are safe and properly regulated."
Schumer also said that federal regulators should review the study and publicly publish a statement of the results of their research.
